Betty's Sugar Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
<br>- 1 cup shortening
<br>- ½ cup white sugar
<br>- ½ cup brown sugar
<br>- 2  eggs
<br>- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
<br>- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
<br>- ½ teaspoon baking soda
<br>- ½ teaspoon salt
<br>- ¼ cup colored sugar for decoration
<br><p></p>Directions
<br>step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
<br>step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; blend into the creamed mixture. Roll dough into 1/2  inch balls and place them 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with colored sugar.
<br>step 3: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
