Iced-Spiced Ginger Bars Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup hot, brewed coffee
- 1 cup butter
- ½ cup molasses
- 2 eggs
- ⅓ cup butter
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons water
Directions
step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease a 15 x 10 or 13 x 9 inch pan.
step 2: In a large bowl, combine flour, white sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt, coffee, 1 cup butter or margarine, molasses, and eggs. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Pour into prepared pan.
step 3: Bake for 25-30 minutes. Let cool.
step 4: To Make Frosting: In a small saucepan over low heat, cook 1/3 cup butter or margarine until light golden brown, stirring constantly. Add confectioner's sugar, vanilla and water. Blend until smooth (may need to add more water). Spread over cooled bars.
