Old-Fashioned Southern Bread Pudding Recipe
- 3 cups day-old bread cubes
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 dash ground cinnamon
step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
step 2: Spread bread cubes and raisins in a 9x13-inch casserole dish. Mix applesauce, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a small bowl. Pour mixture over bread.
step 3: Mix milk, sugar, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract together in another bowl and pour over bread. Sprinkle top with a dash of cinnamon.
step 4: Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour.
